How can blogging help ELL students? How can it help them with such things like fluency?

  1. I think blogging can definitely help ELL students, as it gives them another opportunity to be consumed by the English language. Through blogging, they are forced to become fluent through reading and writing in order to stay informed within the class. Blogging allows ELL students to see conversation in writing and develop their conversational and analytical writing skills.

  2. I think that blogging could be beneficial to ELL students because they would be able to see the information instead of just hearing it. It also might be a great way for them to be able to utilize translators online in a quick way so that they don't feel "left behind." Also, this is a more relaxed way to practice writing skills, where a slip up in grammar or spelling would not result in a poor grade. This will help ELL students become more comfortable in their writing skills.

  3. ELL learners can be helped by blogging because they will be able to get feedback from not only their teachers but also other students in their class. A blog will allow students to see others people's work and know what is to be expected. Visuals along with other tools will allow students to succeed. Blogs can help students become more fluent with the language, because they are seeing it more along with writing it out and reading it. Their communication and writing abilities will grow. Students will be able to learn from not only their teachers but their peers.

  4. I think that blogging can help ELL students by letting them express themselves more easily. Speaking your mind on the internet is much easier that in the classroom with many people looking at you. Also, because the students are not on the spot it can help them to take more time and think about what they want to say and how they want to say it. This can help build confidence as the students don't feel as if they are being put on the spot.

  5. I think that blogging could help ELL students by giving them a chance write and take time and focus on what they are writing. ELL students struggle with writing and need more time to find the right words to create fluent sentences. In class, ELL students may be rushed to produce writing and blogs would force ELL students to slow down and concentrate on word choice and overall meaning in their writing.

  6. As Karlie and Rebecca said, it would really help these students. It would also be very helpful to them because it will encourage them to explore the English language more and would give them time to prepare a well-written, confident answer rather than putting them on the spot.

  7. Blogs can help struggling and ELL students in multiple ways. It encourages them to develop thinking and communication skills. Blogs are personal expressions of ideas and thoughts a person may have, and sometimes even opinions. Some struggling learners may have a hard time communicating verbally, so blogs assist students to communicate the material effectively in a different approach. Blogs can help all students organize the information to get thoughts across more clearly.

  8. I agree with Karlie, I think that blogging can help ELL students. Blogging allows students to see and use the English language in new ways. ELL students will be able to see how people communicate on a daily basis through a blog using basic language. The students can increase their confidence level with the English language.
